“‘Hey,’ said Shadow. ‘Huginn or Muninn, or whoever you are.’
The bird turned, head tipped, suspiciously, on one side, and it stared at him with bright eyes.
‘Say “Nevermore”,’ said Shadow.
‘Fuck you,’ said the raven.”—Neil Gaiman, American Gods (via ne0nic0)
can i like, formally thank tumblr for educating me on sexuality and gender identities and stuff like that? because there was so much i just didn’t know before.
thank you, tumblr.
One of them being how being cisgendered is wrong.
I’m not sure who said it would be *wrong*, the general consensus *I* see is that being cisgendered gives you an advantage in this society. And this advantage is called “privilege”.
You don’t have to figure out where among the gender identities you really stand. You don’t have to figure out how your sexuality plays into that. You don’t have to put up with people berating, attacking or treating you badly for not matching your biological sex (which does not mean that you don’t have to put up with mean shit, just not with *that* kind of mean shit on top of other mean shit). You don’t have to hide your gender identity in place where it’s not accepted. If you are cisgender.
Those are all advantages you have when you’re cisgender. The thing that’s actually *bad* is when cisgender people deny having those advantages. Because that’s the point where they stop being attentive for how people outside the gender binary are treated badly and need to be treated better.
If you were referring to the phrase “die cis scum” for example, we know this phrase. It can’t do anything to you though and if we’re very generous with the number of people who agree with it, that number would probably land in the hundreds?
But the number of people who berate, attack and even kill transgender people exceeds the millions by now. Comparing both cases is like comparing a mugging murderer to the holocaust.
However, in my view, it’s hypocritical to hate anyone if you’re asking not to be hated yourself.
And nobody should ever tell somebody else to die. For any reason.
